Mercer Island is the most distinct service area on the Eastside — a single city covering an entire island in Lake Washington, accessed from the rest of the Eastside via the I-90 floating bridge. Service trucks dispatch to Mercer Island from our Bellevue garage; the drive is approximately 15 to 20 minutes from our base to the central island under normal traffic, longer during commute peaks. We carry the same crew, same flat-rate pricing, and same standards to every Mercer Island address.
The Mercer Island residential profile is uniformly premium. Lakefront properties on the perimeter of the island concentrate the highest-value residential work — dock electrical, lakefront generator installations, hot tub and pool electrical at the scale of properties with multiple water features, and landscape lighting design where the lake view shapes the night character of the property. Interior island neighborhoods bring mid-tier and upper-tier residential work across the standard project categories.
Lakefront and Dock Electrical
Dock electrical is one of our most specialized service categories, and Mercer Island has the highest density of dock electrical work of any Eastside city. The scope includes boat lift wiring, dock lighting (typically low-voltage LED for visibility without disturbing the water), shoreline service for water-side mechanical equipment, and the bonding and grounding work required for any electrical infrastructure adjacent to fresh water. NEC Article 555 governs marina-style electrical work, but private residential docks fall under simpler residential code requirements; the bonding and disconnect work, however, follows the same principles as hot tub electrical.
Lakefront properties also concentrate generator installation work. PSE outages on Mercer Island are uncommon but not rare, and lakefront properties with elevated mechanical equipment (lake-water pumps, septic lift stations, lakefront irrigation) frequently install whole-home or essential-loads standby generators to preserve operation during outages.
The Entire Island
Mercer Island residential neighborhoods include First Hill (the central commercial district and surrounding higher-density residential), East and West Mercer (the larger interior neighborhoods covering most of the island), and the lakefront perimeter. The housing stock spans 1950s ramblers through 2020s custom rebuilds, with significant new construction continuously replacing older homes as Mercer Island land values support full teardowns and rebuilds.
Panel upgrades from older Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels are common on the 1950s and 1960s stock. EV charger installations are very common across the entire island; Mercer Island EV adoption is among the highest in the state. Heat pump conversions from older gas furnaces are increasingly common as homeowners take advantage of PSE rebates and federal IRA tax credits. Whole-home premium smart home builds, often in conjunction with major remodels or new construction, represent the upper end of our Mercer Island project mix.
Permitting and Inspection
Mercer Island electrical permits go through WA L&I; the city does not operate its own electrical inspection program. Permitting and inspection scheduling are typically same-day to three-business-day. Inspector dispatch to Mercer Island is reliable; we have not historically seen unusual delays in scheduling Mercer Island inspections compared to mainland Eastside cities.
The I-90 floating bridge is the only ground access to Mercer Island. We schedule Mercer Island work around the bridge traffic profile when possible — early morning starts to arrive before commute peak, or late-morning starts to avoid both rush hours. For emergency dispatch, we route via the bridge regardless of traffic; the alternative routes through Seattle add time rather than save it.
